At CIRTA, we are continuously collaborating with elected officials and community leaders to drive progress in public transit. Here are some of our current initiatives:
Partnerships for Funding Reallocation
We are actively working alongside IndyGo and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) to ensure that federal 5307 and 5311 transit funding is effectively applied to its highest and best uses. By forging strategic partnerships, we aim to optimize the allocation of resources and enhance the efficiency of public transit operations.
Enhancing Rural and Suburban Transit
Recognizing the importance of transportation in rural and suburban areas, we are engaging with local transit providers to identify opportunities for improvement. By focusing on increased efficiency, we strive to enhance accessibility and provide reliable transit options for residents across Central Indiana. We also operate last-mile transit services in key suburban employment centers to enable central-city residents to access higher-paying jobs.
Securing Federal Grants
CIRTA is dedicated to obtaining funding through federal grants to support our initiatives. By pursuing these grants, we can invest in vital transportation infrastructure, technology advancements, and community-centered projects that enrich the transit experience for all.
Enabling Local Funding for Transit
We are actively collaborating with state legislators to empower local authorities to conduct referenda for new transit funding options. These referenda would facilitate the dedication of new local funding to transit initiatives, enabling the communities we serve to have a direct say in improving their transportation options.
Promoting Multi-Modal Transportation
CIRTA is actively advocating for and implementing multi-modal transportation options to provide residents with diverse and convenient ways to travel. This includes integrating various modes of transportation such as buses, light rail, bicycles, and pedestrian infrastructure to create a comprehensive and interconnected network.
Collaborating with Employers and Commuters
Recognizing the significance of transportation for the workforce, CIRTA works closely with local employers to develop transportation solutions that address their specific needs. By understanding commuting patterns and implementing employer-led initiatives, CIRTA aims to enhance accessibility to job opportunities and alleviate transportation challenges for employees. We also develop customized solutions for their employees, including vanpools.
Enhancing Accessibility for Individuals with Disabilities
CIRTA is dedicated to improving accessibility for individuals with disabilities across the region. This involves working with transit providers to ensure compliance with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) regulations, implementing accessible infrastructure, and providing specialized services to accommodate the unique transportation requirements of individuals with disabilities.
Conducting Community Outreach and Education
CIRTA recognizes the importance of community engagement and public awareness. Ongoing efforts involve conducting community outreach programs, public meetings, and educational campaigns to inform residents about transportation options, upcoming projects, and initiatives. By fostering a transparent and inclusive dialogue, CIRTA seeks to gather valuable feedback and ensure that transportation plans align with the needs and preferences of the community.
Exploring Innovative Technologies
CIRTA is actively exploring and implementing innovative transportation technologies to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and user experience. This may include initiatives such as integrating smart transit systems, implementing real-time passenger information systems, and exploring potential partnerships with private sector organizations to leverage emerging transportation solutions.
